You are probably wondering what the heck is The Veteran News & Shopper and why.
Ron Alexander - Publisher providing support for our veteran brothers and sisters needing help. We are all veteran Well, my name is Ron Alexander and three years ago I started working with the annual Gold Rush Car Show held every year in May during the Feather Fiesta Days week. My job is the produce the artwork, embroidered hats, screen printed t-shirts, posters, dash plaques, trophies and publish the show publication.
About six months ago (Late 2015) the owner of The Digger Shopper called me and ask if I would be interested in buying the publication. But after reviewing the financials I had to decline the offer. Then last month I heard that The Digger Shopper was up for sale at a much lower price and if it did not sell it would be going out of business. So I approached the owner again and negotiated a price. But when it came down to signing a Business Purchase Agreement the owner changed his mind.
I am a member of the Oroville Chamber and have know Cliff Marler for several years. I had Cliff accompany me to the final meeting at The Digger and when the deal fell through and publication was going out of business, I told Cliff we would start The Veteran News & Shopper.
I am the Executive Director of Love Your Vets. The organization is made up of a group of veterans volunteers and no salaries are paid leaving all our fundraising efforts to go to helping our veterans. The Veteran News & Shopper will help Love Your Vets accomplish our goal as well as keep the former community icon “The Digger Shopper” resource available in Oroville & The Greater Oroville Area.
