Glen & Carolyn Waddel with sawdust alpacas - reno, nv
We bought our first 4 alpacas in June 2009. Three were pregnant and by the end of summer we had 7 girls and bought 2 boys. We now have 32 alpacas of our own and agist (board) several others.
Alpacas are raised for their fiber. We shear once per year. We send some of the fiber to a mill to be spun into yarn or made into felt which we are then able to use to make sweaters, hats, scarves, etc. We also send fiber to the Alpaca Blanket Project. They then send the fiber to various mills across the US where it is made into blankets, woven scarves, hats, gloves, c socks, teddy bears and many other product which we are able to sell in our local stores.
