GDPR Summary for Association Executives
The General Data Protection Regulation is a law intended to strengthen the right to data protection of individuals in the European Union. The regulation takes effect on May 25, 2018, and applies to all companies and other organizations established anywhere in the world that offer good and services to people in the EU or collect and analyze personal date of EU residents.
The people whose personal data you collect, use, or process in any way are referred to in the GDPR as Data Subjects. This new complex set of rules aims to allow data subjects full control over their personal data, by imposing strict obligations which organizations that process their data will need to comply.
Breach of those obligations may incur a fine of up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20 million (whichever is greater).
In brief, here are some of the main elements to consider for achieving compliance with the GDPR.
We are really excited to announce the full release of our new Blue Door Red Door program. In order to help explain this program to your potential members we have created a new 4 minute movie that we think will help your prospective members truly understand how the Chamber can help their business prosper.

(Letter from Executive Director of the Oroville Chamber to their members and via the local newspaper following the Chamber Nation conference. We asked Claudia if we may post this and she said it would be fine to do so - thank you.)
From Claudia’s desk…
Some of you may not realize that through your chamber membership you have a very powerful tool working in the background behind your business. This tool is a vast technical network called Chamber Nation (CN), and it exists solely for the purpose of growth and support of local businesses in communities throughout the United States. CN is based right here in our region in Quincy, California. The company’s motto is “We’re all about GROWTH” and I can attest to the truth of that statement.
The Oroville Area Chamber first secured the services of Chamber Nation in 2006, under the leadership of Paul MacBeth, who helped to define the concept of how the company could be of service to local businesses through their Chambers of Commerce. I had only been with the chamber for a little over a year at the time, but I was extremely happy to work in the Chamber Nation system, then known as ECTown, USA, even though my computer skills at the time were pretty much non-existent!
The company’s initial concept was to provide an inexpensive way for businesses to grow revenue. Chamber Nation chose Chambers of Commerce as the portal through which business owners could access a vast array of tools built specifically to help grow their businesses.
The idea was to get chamber members a presence on the internet so the online Business Directory came into being. But the company founder, Richard Scully, and his partners knew that his wasn’t enough. Each business needed to be individually showcased and needed to be connected to a source that would have the ability to make them easily found on the worldwide web. Connecting all of these businesses under the most trusted source in each community (the Chamber of Commerce) would raise the position of each business in the big search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.) and make everyone within the network more visible on the web. Each business needed its own “landing page” featuring information specific to that business.
The solution: an individual “Traffic Catcher Site’ (TCS). The TCS would be (and is) able to function as a stand-alone website (Chamber Nation provides an individual domain name at no extra charge) with not only contact information for the business, but also the opportunity for photos, coupons, videos (commercials), online commerce and more (just ask Cliff…). For those with a website already in place, the TCS, through its connection to the chamber’s directory, would help drive additional attention to that website. For smaller businesses that couldn’t afford to have a stand-alone website built, the TCS would fulfill that need.
All chamber members have a TCS included with their membership.
Since then, many more features and services have been added to what we fondly call “The System” -- the Mobile Web App, for example, which properly displays your information on smart phones and tablets. BTW, the use of these devices for finding information has increased 100% over the last year! Without mobile visibility you might as well locate your business in an abandoned mining tunnel!
Feel like you don’t have time to mess around with taking advantage of making your business more visible? That’s okay. Chamber Nation will optimize your TCS for you at no charge.
Then there’s Chamber Squad. For a very nominal fee Chamber Nation will build out your TCS and maintain it for you. That means that instead of going into the system and updating your information
( the shoe sale is over but socks are now 50% off) the Chamber Nation staff will do it for you –of course, you have to email them the new info—they have not developed the ability to read your mind … yet!
Just today, your chamber staff has returned from a two day Chamber Nation conference in Reno. Yes, I can hear you now: ahh, poor chamber staff had to go to Reno and suffer through two days of having information pounded into their tiny little brains in a beautiful setting… Well, we all returned feeling stuffed to the brim, even overwhelmed, but also energized with all kinds of information that we are now sorting and digesting, and I am happy to say we are excited to dig in and put “The System” to even greater use than before.
If your company is not taking advantage of the power of “The System” give us a call. We’ll set you up with the right help to jump in and grow your business. The fact is that we all believe so strongly in the importance of this “stuff” that we are willing to do whatever it takes to help you promote and grow your business in these ways!
A healthy economy is good for our town!
The membership organizations that commonly implement the Location Carousel system rank very high on search engines. Once people reach these sites through Google™ and Bing™ they have access to research tools which incorporate member ads.
Broadcasting through this program will deliver member ads through the Area Search Engine©, posted onto the organization website, through official mobile apps and through the members own Traffic Catcher System.
Members of these participating organizations are provided with 'special' access to become trusted news commentators for both community information, photos and their own business updates.
This information will instantly stream through the Members News Network typically posted on the official community website. In addition it streams through the Chamber Social Network / Member Business Network / College Business Network and to public viewers using the official community mobile applications.
Another great feature is that members who use this system may use the integrated 'Multi-Post' system to broadcast their news and special offers into FaceBook, LinkedIN, Twitter and the Member News Network with ONE CLICK.
Photos play a very important part in not only promoting a community, but also for businesses as well.
Members are able to instantly contribute photos for the Member News Network that potential tourists or prospects will see to help build local community commerce.
Photos can be taken instantly on mobile devices (phones / tablets) and then electronically posted to various areas of this network.

Good Friday to Everyone:
I hope you will excuse me for talking so much about mobile services, but it is truly an opportunity for the Chamber of Commerce to dramatically expand the value proposition of membership and potential going forward. Why? Because the mobile world is moving a whole lot faster than you might realize. The Chamber is perfectly positioned to be the provider of this technology, guidance and already has the support in place (US) that so many of your members need today. If it's the mobile tools we provide to your members for FREE, or the extension they can purchase it all results in excellent solutions for your members and the community. The more members rely on the Chamber for their promotion the higher your retention rates will be.
Seemingly most Chamber of Commerce executives agree with me when I say its no longer about the number of parking spots available in the community for shopping, but how much of the community is online and competing for commerce?
There is way too much technology, but way too little guidance or support for most people when it comes to this subject. The Chamber of Commerce with our help, has what I believe to be the BEST USA support team anywhere... not because of our size, but because we honestly care about our customers and their members. We also get their questions answered quickly and are sure to make them happy.... at least almost all of them.
The mobile opportunity in front of you today is hard to explain, but we know that any Chamber that adopts a mobile publishing system as their own today, takes the leadership position to help the ENTIRE COMMUNITY compete online. There is no doubt it will absolutely help the Chamber prosper in the future. The analysts say businesses deciding to go mobile is estimated to be larger than the 1995 rush for websites. So its obvious that the Chamber of Commerce can play a highly important roll is this process.... inter-connecting everything local is far more powerful that everyone going at it alone with no manster plan.
It's not about the website or mobile app... it is about an organization (like yours) taking the lead and saying we are going to make sure the vast majority of our community is online for commerce and positioned on every major platform.
We launched a new website today we hope will help explain the potential you now have already in place. Although most of you already have what is shown on this website, the way we have positioned it to work for you, staff, members and the community is rather unique and should help explain why you should say yes to the Location Carousel growth plan.
Please view www.LocationCarousel.com and then let us know if you would like to move forward with a formal mobile publishing system. We will set you up for training and we'll help you order your Chamber Intelligence app so you can launch.
I will be creating new mobile strategy classes for you and your members so that you will not only have the technology and support, but also the strategy to get the very most out of the program.
Please view: www.LocationCarousel.com to learn more.
Have a nice weekend and thank you for your time.

The latest Chamber Nation mobile app is called Chamber Intelligence for a very good reason. It is a fully interactive mobile application that begins to take Chamber of Commerce management mobile. Executives can access important reports, view member details, add a prospect, edit profiles, view member trends and much more.
Members can update parts of their community advertising, TCS page information, create / edit coupons, chamber daily deals, post to the chamber social network right from their phone.
Public will find valuable information on the community and the members easily through our newly updated mobile member directory, calendars and more. Visitors can even use their phone to create reminders to events and quickly share deals and members ads to others.
Chamber Nation customers will soon see this option added to the www.ChamberAPPStore.com
in February at an affordable price point so all can afford the transistion to mobile technologies.

July 7, 2011 - Chamber Nation
We are pleased to announce the opening of the Chamber App Store. A store dedicated to providing great mobile applications for Chambers of Commerce at affordable prices.
"Most Chambers of Commerce have a very limited budget" says Richard Scully, CEO of Chamber Nation.
All communities must be online through many different channels. This includes Print, Website, Social Networking and Mobile App Marketplaces.
We are hopeful that the Chamber App Store will satisfy this need in even the smallest communities where budgets are tightest. Chamber Nation knows all about small communities... our community here in Quincy California has a population of about 5000, but we serve tens of thousands through the Internet. It goes to show how important it is to promote small communities and their member businesses througout the nation.
We are releasing the Chamber Mobile App on July 15, 2011.
Be sure to visit: www.ChamberAppStore.com to learn all about it.
